Compatibility of Ocean Products with Competitive Products
Compatibility tests with Ocean Products and equivalent products from competition are routinely carried out during the development stages of a lubricating oil as it is commercially very unattractive to introduce a product to the market which is not compatible with equivalent lubricants from competitors.
As a result of this practice Ocean lubricants are fully compatible with equivalent lubricants from competition, which are recommended for same application. For example, Taro Special is fully compatible with cylinder oils marketed by Mobil, Exxon, Shell, Castrol, etc.
The same is applicable to trunk piston engine oils, hydraulic oils, turbine oils and gear oils from the various oil companies. This implies that the oils in use can be safely topped-up with the recommended Ocean Products provided that the normal top-up procedures are being followed (not more than the addition of 10% fresh oil at a time). Unused equivalent lubricants from different suppliers as shown in vessel’s lubrication chart can normally be mixed in any ratio.
In short, the following rules apply:
• Equivalent mineral lubricants of various suppliers can be mixed without any problems.
• Similar synthetic lubricants of various suppliers can be mixed without any problems.
• Mixing of different types of products from the same or different suppliers should be avoided.
